Sunday 5 February
10.00 – 12.30 am
This workshop will encourage you to draw from an instant impression thus capturing the gesture and movement of the figure.
This practice allows an artist to draw strenuous or spontaneous poses that cannot be held by the model long enough for an elaborate study, and reinforces the importance of movement, action, and direction, which can be overlooked during a long drawing.
A completed gesture drawing need not accurately resemble the subject when done correctly but instead seeks to describe what the figure is doing.
The session will begin with a short talk and slides looking at the work of artists relevant to gesture drawing. The class is structured with a series of exercises that will encourage you to draw energetically and confidently.
