Sunday 9.30 – 12.30 pm
22 October 2015
Starting with a series of short exercises, ideas of volume, mass, weight and the planes that constitute the head as it exists in 3-dimensional space will be explored to gain a visual understanding of the structure beneath the skin. The purpose of the drawings will be to reach beyond depictions that comprises of an appearance and likeness only. As the morning progresses time will be spent on a longer sustained drawing that will push and further these ideas to create a portrait with qualities of solidity, weight and tangible form.
The morning will begin with a short slide talk looking at the works of artists relevant to the workshop and we will have a short crit at the end of the session. All materials are provided and the course is suitable for all levels of experience.
