Saturday 9.30 – 4.30 pm
19 September 2015
The day will start with a series of short exercises using materials and ideas to encourage a consideration of the sculptural qualities of the head. Ideas of volume, mass, weight and the planes that constitute the head as it exists in 3-dimensional space will be explored to gain a visual understanding of the structure beneath the skin. The purpose of the drawings will be to reach beyond depictions that comprises of an appearance and likeness only. As the day progresses time will be spent on a longer sustained drawing that will push and further these ideas to create a portrait with qualities of solidity, weight and tangible form.
